"FONDATION LOUIS VUITTON BUILDING IN PARIS BY FRANK GEHRY” Exhibit - Beijing, China

The Fondation Louis Vuitton expands its artistic activities outside of Paris. The first stage in "Beyond-the-Walls" program will take the form of a monographic exhibition devoted to Frank Gehry and his architectural project for the Fondation. The exhibition, based on the inauguration of the Fondation in Paris last October will take place in Beijing from June 20 - August 9, 2015, in a specially allocated venue at the China World Shopping Mall West Building. The exhibition will then travel to Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo from October 15, 2015.

Based on Frank Gehry’s project for the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, the exhibition presented in Beijing offers a new vision of the creative universe of the architect, recipient of the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 1989. The exhibition retraces the entire process of the building’s conception, from early sketches to the completion of work for the Fondation that the architect has described as a ‘magnificent vessel that symbolizes France’s profound cultural vocation.’

Alongside with the original drawings, the exhibition features all the models produced in the course of the project. These are organized into sub-sections, each reflecting the study of a particular aspect of the building: Contexts, Program, Design Process, Interior Spaces, Icebergs, and Glass Sails.

Commissioned by Bernard Arnault and produced through close collaborations between Frank Gehry’s teams and curators Frédéric Migayrou and Sébastien Cherruet, this exhibition is in fact a true installation. Unveiled in Paris in conjunction with the official opening of the Fondation Louis Vuitton, this exhibition is today presented to the Chinese public, an audience already familiar with the monuments of the French capital and now given the chance to learn about the building designed by Frank Gehry.
